Bloodstone
Bloodstone forms at shallow depths and low temperatures by precipitation from silica-rich groundwaters in fractures and cavities. Often refferred to as Heliotrope, it can be found embedded in rocks or in riverbeds in countries such as India, Brazil, Australia, Germany, the United States, Italy and South Africa. Bloodstone is a dark green variety of chalcedony adorned with a splatter of bright red. It has been a popular gemstone for at least two thousand years and has served as the modern birthstone for the month of march since 1912.
Bloodstone has been used for thousand of years world wide for a number of reasons. It is believed to aid or slow down blood flow, and has been used as an aphrodisiac is some cultures.
Wear or carry Bloodstone as an amulet of protection against threats or bullying, whether verbal or physical and for guidance to withdraw when appropriate and the courage to confront when needed. Also associated with life and birth, vitality and strength, passion and courage. As a talisman, it is both mystical and magical, and its virtues are protective and nurturing.
