Did You Know?

It is believed that Chrysoprase was the favorite stone of Alexander III, an ancient Greek king of Macedonia. It is said that he didn’t win any campaign after losing his precious girdle.

Chrysoprase is a beautiful apple-green colored stone found in Australia, Brazil, and some parts of the USA. It gets its green color from oxides and silicates of nickel. Chrysoprase was most commonly used in jewelry, seals, signets, and other ornamental objects in ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian eras. It gets its name from the Greek word chrysos, which means ‘gold’, and praso, which means ‘leek’ or ‘bloom’. This name was bestowed on it as it shows a tinge of golden yellow in its beautiful color. It is often mistaken for imperial jade. Chrysoprase is a rare variety of the chalcedony group, and is known for its healing properties.
